Peruvian born, Asheville based, M A R is a non-binary artist and advocate. A singer, songwriter and producer who fuses pop, and folk elements across bilingual lyrics infused with acoustic guitars and indie rhythms, M A R has shared his music on National TV networks such as Azteca TV, Telemundo, Mega, and International radio/press/media in Peru and South America.
M A R’s music career began in Miami,FL with the debut release, “Busca Tu Voz,” winner of the Song of the Year 2007. A recipient of Premio Orgullo Peruano (2009), M A R remembers his roots with love, and loyalty to the place where he was born. M A R released his third album The One (2015) and toured different cities of North, Central and South America. In early 2020 M A R sold out his EP release show at the Diana Wortham Theater in Asheville NC with I am I, produced by Los Angeles’ based producer Billy Lefler (Ingrid Michaelson, Lisa Loeb, Avril Lavigne).
Currently, MAR is back on stage playing live shows with his band MAR and The Marmeladies. In addition, since 2020 M A R and Jim Kuemmerle form the band Les Graines De Porcelaine, who recently released the latin urban cumbia "Vuelve a la Vida".
As an artist and producer, M A R draws from his Latin American folk roots, as well as his influence of indie-folk, pop, and electronic from his journey through North America.
M A R continues forging ahead with his newest release "Hollow" which is a self-reflecting electronic-indie track. “Hollow” talks about this muse capriciously showing up and having you at its mercy. M A R shares how “it's a push and pull with our creative process. There is this greater force within that doesn’t run on tap, and just like any other relationship it demands attention, takes over you, and also can drive you to the brink of madness. And that’s when the magic happens... for which I’m so grateful.”
